Lag Baomer marks the passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, one of the great sages of the Mishna and an important Jewish mystic. It is traditionally celebrated as a joyous day in the middle of the counting of the Omer, a solemn period of time in which we refrain from weddings, haircuts and joyous celebration.
